Your Judging Panel - Dr John Cooke
Mildura Development Corporation (MDC) have announced the judging panel for the 2016 ANZ Sunraysia Daily Mildura Innovation Awards.
Welcome Dr John Cooke
John grew up on a wheat and sheep farm at Walpeup in the central Mallee, and worked on that farm for 2 years. He left the farm to attend University. In 1985 John’s PhD Thesis addressed the relationship between soil management and long-term productivity of cropping soils. He has continued to publish articles and conference papers since.
Dr Cooke held research and management positions within the Environmental and Water Departments of the Victorian State Government for 40 years up till his retirement in 2012. During this time John represented Victoria on intergovernmental committees that addressed the policy and management of salinity, water and groundwater across state borders.
His involvement in land use and management continues in his role as Board Member and Deputy Chair of the Mallee Catchment Management Authority. John is also Chairperson of the Regional Advisory Committee of La Trobe University Mildura Campus and Board Member of Mallee Family Care. For all of this time John worked in northern Victoria and has lived in Mildura for the past 30 years
In 2015 Dr Cooke was awarded of the Degree of Doctor of Science (honorary) from La Trobe University in recognition of his contribution in the fields of natural resource management and community service achievements.
